Türkiye’s exports in August set new record: minister

ISTANBUL, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — Türkiye set a new record in its August exports, reaching an unprecedented 22.1 billion U.S. dollars, Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat said here on Monday.
“This is the highest August export figure in the Republic’s history,” the minister said, highlighting that the volume represents a 2.4 percent increase compared to the same month in 2023.
In the first eight months of 2024, exports increased by 3.9 percent compared to the same period last year, totaling 170.8 billion dollars, according to the minister.
During the same period, imports decreased by 8.7 percent from the previous year, totaling 225.7 billion dollars, Bolat said.
The foreign trade deficit decreased by 33.6 percent year-on-year in the first eight months of 2024, dropping to 54.9 billion dollars, he added.
“The trend of decreasing imports continues, and we are experiencing a strong downward trend in our foreign trade deficit and our current account deficit,” Bolat said. ■
